By: Tessa L. Adams “You is kind, you is smart, you is important.” These are encouraging words from the Academy Award nominated film “The Help,” directed by Tate Taylor. “The Help” has opened up the eyes of many University of Akron students to sensitive racial material. Adapted from Kathryn Stockett’s best-selling novel of the same [...]
“The Hunger Games” review
By: Jessica Hicks “May the odds be ever in your favor,” is just one of the many lines that made me shudder while reading Suzanne Collins’s well-crafted tale “The Hunger Games.” Reading the book before the film is out is a massive accomplishment for me. I cannot tell you how many times I have said, [...]
The modern way my dog ate my homework
By: Kayleigh Bracht “My little brother locked me in the closet last night. My parents didn’t realize until they got home from work the next day because I fell asleep,” one freshman engineering student explained to his professor. Making up an excuse used to be as simple as telling your teacher that your dog ate [...]

Nevertheless, this is what visitors to the Projects Gallery of the Myers School of Art will find: 8.5-by-11 sheets of paper, arranged on the [...]

Jennifer Browning’s performance in “The Gospel According to Tammy Faye” was not just an impressive acting debut for her; it was arguably the most remarkable debut in UA theater history.

How to stay safe on campus
Living on campus can be a very exciting experience. To make sure your experience in a residence hall is all it can be, remember that part of the experience is feeling safe.
Explore your inner color
Taking a quick look around your dorm, what catches your eye first? Is it that bold comforter of yours, or that shaggy hot pink rug? Maybe it’s the electric blue lounge chair. None of the above?
It seems you need a bit of an update. I can’t think of anyone who wants to sit in a drab dorm all day with white sheets, no posters and no color. Adding items to your dorm can not only help show visitors your personality, but, depending on the colors you choose, can also help set the atmosphere you want to portray.

Protect your assets with renter’s insurance
There are many things to consider upon moving away from home for the first time. For students beginning their independence , it is important to have a coverage plan in the case of damage incurred to rented property – including dormitory housing.
Winter Fashion
Traditionally during the spring semester, students are usually just trying to stay warm and get to class as fast as they can to keep out of the cold weather. Clothing generally falls under the “sport apparel” category, and students bundle up in layers with their heaviest attire to battle the winter cold.
This semester, however, I have noticed more and more students dressing stylishly warm, starting off spring semester with major fashion statements.
Dating Doctor diagnoses students’ love problems
Despite the single-digit temperatures, The University of Akron was turning up the heat Wednesday night with David Coleman, who presented a few lessons on love and relationships at EJ Thomas.
Hosted by the Resident Housing and Programming Board, the “Dating Doctor” made his second entertainment appearance at the Stage Door. A full house took part in the “Making Relationships Matter” seminar, which opened the doorways to improving the love lives of students across campus.
Diamond Delicatessen: A cut above the rest
As college students, good food and good food ideas are always a top priority. Luckily for us, downtown Akron houses a variety of restaurants for all tastes.
Recently, I stopped in for lunch at the Diamond Delicatessen on South Main. I was met by an old-school atmosphere where the employees greet their customers by their first names and inquire about their business and family life.
The Deli, which has been under its current ownership for nearly 15 years, strives to make their customer service personal across its vast clientele. Serving anywhere from 200-400 sandwiches a day, the Deli houses a fast-paced atmosphere without being dismissive of its customers.
Salsa Magic heats up UA’s cold winter nights at EJ
The Stage Door at EJ Thomas was heating up Tuesday when the RHPB and RHC hosted Salsa Magic.
Rhythm and music were all around as students were taught how to salsa dance by the hosts for this event, Salsa and Bachata instructors Lee El Gringuito Smith and Kat Aguilar.
Bachata is a dance that originated in the Dominican Republic. It can be either a choreographed routine or one that is improvised. Salsa dancing is a form of Bachata dancing. It is often associated with romance and heartbreak.
