Experienced DBs anchor Zips defense

There are a lot of questions that University of Akron football coach J.D. Brookhart will have to answer this offseason. Whether it's because of inexperience (quarterbacks, offensive line) or sheer lack of production (tight ends, place kickers), there are many questions that went unanswered during its spring practice schedule, which concluded on Saturday.

The ball joint of John Mackey's shoulder was chipped last season. With each tackle, the jagged bone ripped cartilage away from his socket. The Zips safety played through torture. So when Mackey tells his teammates they need to straighten up, they listen.

The University of Akron track and field team left little doubt that it is the most dominant track program in Ohio this weekend at the All-Ohio Championships in Cincinnati. For the second straight weekend, both the men's and women's teams won the overall meet, which consisted of competition from Cincinnati, Ohio State, Kent State and numerous other programs from around Ohio.

The loss of former Zips forward and current MLS midfielder Sinisia Ubiparipovic was first considered to be a significant loss for the University of Akron soccer program. Ubiparipovic scored 24 goals during his final two seasons with the Zips, leading the team in the scoring category both seasons.
