Concealed-carry advocate thinks gun ban is a risk to student safety

One student believes he knows the best way for students to protect themselves against criminals: a handgun. Senior Brint Hahn, the campus leader of Students for Concealed Carry on Campus at the University of Akron, disagrees with legislation that prohibits individuals from carrying concealed weapons on college campuses.

Armed carjacking scares, frustrates student

A student was carjacked at gunpoint in a parking lot near the Polsky Building shortly after 1 a.m Friday morning. The University of Akron police report said student Abdiweli Hashi was forced at gunpoint to hand over the keys to his '92 Honda Accord. "I was just trying to walk around to downtown," Hashi said.

More than 100 people stood on the side of Market Street Sunday, adorned with signs and banners. Among them was a small group of University of Akron students. They were not protesting the war, and they were not trying to raise money for their local public school.

The first month of the Fall semester at the University of Akron was marked by six separate bomb threats that targeted university buildings. Most threats caused a building to close, classes to be canceled and the reappointment of staff and law enforcement from regular duties to sweep the buildings.

Cavs visit Rhodes

A taste of Cleveland came to the University of Akron Friday as the Cavaliers held a scrimmage at James A. Rhodes Arena. More than 500 students and locals came to witness the Eastern Conference champs scrimmage. Outside the JAR, children could get their hair colored, shoot mini hoops and get a picture with the Eastern Conference trophy.
