Zips rush for Buffalo

Potential return of Mackey leaves team excited

During the Zips' bye week, the University of Akron football team witnessed a sight they thought they would not see again after the Sept. 22 game against Kent State - senior-leader and defensive rover John Mackey returning to practice. After tearing his right ACL early in the game against KSU, the prognosis was that Mackey, one of the team's most vocal leaders, would be relegated to the role of mentor for the rest of the 2007 season.

Beginning May 10, 2008, the NFL Network will show classic games from its archive of more than 12,000, which have never been seen since their live airings. That is probably the best news I've heard all week. With one exception. All of the games but one are no older than 2000.

Don't overlook Buffalo

Akron bashed its shin on the Temple steps two weeks ago. If the Zips stand up and look around, they're still in the Mid-American Confer ence East race. The team will travel to the University of Buffalo Saturday to play the Bulls, who have never defeated Akron.
