UA chefs raise iron bar

Students take part in Iron Chef Competition Monday, receive judging by food critic, provost, and president's wife

The University of Akron hosted the campus' Iron Chef Competition on Monday evening in the Student Union Ballrooms. The competition allowed three groups of five students to compete against each for top chef. Each team was under the supervision of a chef advisor for the dinner.

Proenza takes new position

President Luis Proenza received a five percent raise from the Board of Trustees on Wednesday during its regularly scheduled meeting. His new total salary, not including bonuses, is $354,495. This increase took affect in Jan. 1. This equates to $170.43 an hour in a 40-hour work week.

Saundra Hunt has family all over the world. She is married with two children in the military, but through a support group she started, Hunt has gained thousands of "family" members. Hunt started the Friends & Families Connected Military Support Group after her daughter joined the Air Force at age17.

The sixth annual Barry Lefkowitz 9-ball Billiards Tournament was held Saturday in the Student Union. Students were up at what must have felt like the crack of dawn for a Saturday morning to meet for fun, camaraderie, and the chance to win $1,000. The tournament began promptly at 9 a.
