UA 'roo-cycles' for planet

Third annual Earth Day celebration set to take place on Thursday

The University of Akron will be celebrating Earth Day on Thursday, April 16 with a variety of interactive exhibits and other activities for the third year in a row. This year's theme is "Roocycle" and will focus on the importance of recycling. "Do It Now for the Envirooment" was last year's theme and was meant to instill a sense of urgency into students, faculty and staff.

Students face harsh welcome to real world

As the end of the spring semester rapidly approaches, those who will be walking across the stage may find the task more daunting than others. According to Mary Ellen Podmolik of the Chicago Tribune, the class of 2009 has an estimated 1.5 million students shifting their tassels from right to left this spring.

Editor in chief named for 2009-2010 year

As Buchtelite editor in chief Dillon Deshong steps down at the end of this year, Managing Editor Kevin Curwin will step up to the challenge and try to fill some big shoes. Incoming editor Curwin said he is excited about this new opportunity. "I'm excited for the opportunities that lay ahead me as the editor in chief of the Buchtelite next year," Curwin said.

Steel bridge team to compete on national stage

University of Akron's steel bridge team recently won first place in the regional competition, which was held on April 4 in Western Kentucky. Akron's steel bridge team consists of civil engineers who are part of the engineering program. The team consists of 21 team members, including team captain, Michael Clements.
