Senior rover John Mackey earned the Mid-American Conference East Defensive Player of the Week award for his performance in the Zips 41-24 loss to Indiana last weekend, and didn't even know it. "Someone told me today and I didn't even know," Mackey said. "I'd be a lot happier if we would have won, but it's still a tremendous honor.

It's hard to say that this punt, pass and kick victory feels as good as last week's bowling win, but it still has a pretty good vibe. There was a whisper around the office that my arm strength would be sub-par to Mr. Fleming's pythons, but it took one throw to silence the critics that tried to take me off my game before the contest even started.

With another week comes another lame loss. Once again, I trained like a champ and my preparation was second to none. For the last two days I listened to nothing but Jock Jams and NFL Films musical scores. I was ready to dominate. I watched tapes of Ray Guy and Morten Anderson, I visualized my objective and I could see myself drilling field goals from all over.
