Students say guns may prevent attacks

Following the Virginia Tech shooting a year ago, many students and lawmakers now support concealed weapons on campus

If you see a few students walking around campus with empty gun holsters this week, don't be surprised. They will be participating in the week-long Empty Holster protest organized by Students for Concealed Carry on Campus (SCCC). The national organization hopes to educate, as well as make a statement about what it considers unfair state laws and school policies.

The sun was high in the sky as Manny Nemer's clientele basis gathered under umbrellas in front of his self named bar, Manny's Pub, on Friday. Although 2:30 p.m. was early to be at the bar, nearly 50 people gathered in the 75-degree midday weather to stand up - or march, rather - for what they believed in.

Students all across Ohio have heard about the state's new ideas to transform the higher education system backed by Education Chancellor Eric Fingerhut's plan. Fingerhut spent time with various students at the University of Akron Friday to discuss his master plan and his future plans for the state, universities and students.
